Provo Canyon Camping

See the little racoons eyes in the dark?

This past week we spent 5 days in Provo Canyon at Nunn's Park. It is really close (just before you get to Bridal Veil Falls.) It's right by the Provo River.Although it is not as private as campgrounds in more rustic areas, it was really nice. Somebody stole our original camping spot so we had to take another which was not quite as nice, but it was really close to the restrooms. That made it nice for those who visited us there. We had John and Kathy there for the full 5 days as they were off work for vacation. Tammy and Charlie and Savannah visited as well as Contessa and Lorin. We had a BBQ with chef Randy as the hot dog and hamburger chef. We had a wonderful time.

There are lots of biking and hiking trails there and lots of skateboarders so you have to watch out for them. This would be a good place for a family reunion. But the campsites cannot be reserved. They are first come, first served. You can however, reserve the pavillions there. It's a good place for kids since there is lots to do and the ice cream truck even comes by. It's a county park and is only $10 a night to camp there.

At night when we roasted marshmallows, we had a visitor. A cute little racoon. He just loved marshmallows and potato chips. He didn't like the Cheerios we gave him. I guess he is a junk food racoon. I have photos of him in this blog and all you see is his eyes shining in the dark. We also had a bird that dived in the river and a squirrel and a little black otter. We saw lots of people riding kayaks down the river. You can rent kayaks and rafts for that activity as well. It was a great time.

Home from the Hills

We got home from camping yesterday. It was a lot of work. Sometimes I wonder why we want to go to all this work just to go out in the woods and leave our electricity and comforts of home. Of course, we don't really rough it. We have a nice trailer. Anyway, we did have fun and enjoyed some family members visiting while we were there.

We are camping again on July 26 for 5 days.

July 4th

We have been camping since June 28. We were up on the American Fork Canyon in the Alpine Loop area at Timpanoonke. We have really enjoyed the chimpmonks and ground squirrels. Of course Randy keeps them well fed with peanuts. Yesterday, the 4th of July, we had Tammy's family visit us in our campsite. Monica and Jay were supposed to come but after waiting two hours, Charlie was finally able to get them on his cell phone. It seems they got lost which did seem kind of strange since they used to live in America Fork. So we missed having them there. Savannah made Randy go for a walk with her which was probably really good for him to do. Savannah did fall down but she was not hurt at all really.

We took a ride all the way down to the Provo side of the loop and visited Tina and Kipp at the Clark Canyon house. We had our own food, but Tina and Kipp invited us to eat with them. Felicia and her husband and her kids Raia and Jesse were there as well. We had a great time just visiting and watching the humming birds and the river.
We went back to the campsite and made a campfire. We made s'mores and roasted marshmallows. Savannah really enjoyed herself and said she loved to go camping. Bear, the dog had fun too. We had an enjoyable time. Right now I am home cleaning the house and paying some attention to the cats. Randy is up at the campsite. I will join him tomorrow. We will come home on Wednesday. We are camping again at Little Mill on July 24.
